In Nikolas „Klangbildern“ gehen Klangfarben und Farbklänge Hand in Hand. Seit einigen Jahren befasst sich die Künstlerin mit dem Phänomen des „Farbenhörens“. Kompositionen von beispielsweise Arvo Pärt, Keith Jarrett, Erik Satie und ihre eigenen Werke inspirieren und begleiten sie bei ihrer Arbeit. „Eine Jazzkomposition wird immerzu blau! Saties kubistische Kompositionen sind rot!“ Synästhesien, insbesondere die Verbindung von Klang und Farbe spielen in ihren Bildern eine wichtige Rolle.
